| These tours are based on the industries that created Dundee. The character of this harbour town evolved because of its position between the Law and the River Tay.
3J's: Jute, Jam and Journalism
Walk the city centre and its side streets to discover the trades that made Dundee famous. Jute dominated the city for barely 90 years yet indelibly marked a settlement that had been dealing in textiles for centuries. In this period the population doubled and shop-keepers like James Keillor prospered - especially when his wife created a product that was to become known world-wide! Also in this period David Couper Thomson established a publishing company. A legend was born!
3M's: Medieval, Maritime and the Meadows
Discover Dundee through the ages. The medieval Royal Burgh was centred around its port that saw cargoes ranging from sugar to spice, whales to walrus' and the most famous textile of all - jute. The wealth created from this product resulted in Dundee draining its swampland to create the epitome of Victorian architecture. The highlights of this tour include the highest surviving medieval ecclesiastical tower, a medieval orchard and restored 17th century Sea Captain's house.
Dundee Law
A short climb brings you to the site of a Pictish fort atop this rock that was shaped by molten lava and ice movement. View what has been described as the ideal setting for a city. Gaze upon Broughty Ferry Castle and imagine it occupied by English forces. Wonder at the engineering that created Cox's Stack and the doomed Tay Rail Bridge. Descend through the wooded path to the site of Scotland's first railway tunnel. Know why Dundee earned the title Dei Donum (Gift from God).
